Master in Tourism

airplanecn0114.jpgThe Flemish Master in Tourism offers an educational programme that emerges from the collaboration between ten educational institutions. The Catholic University of Leuven (K.U.Leuven) signs for the overall co-ordination, organisation and final responsibility.

The programme aims at offering specialized courses in tourism from an economic angle on the one hand and from a place and society perspective on the other hand. Not only contents but also creativity is focussed on as well as the ability of conducting independently a study in the field of tourism management , tourism market analysis, tourism policy and development etc. A multidisciplinary approach is predominantly present within the programme as well as within the structure of staff and didactical teams.

The complete educational programme consists of three semesters and therefore takes 1.5 years: 

Semester 1
[45 ECTS credits]
September – end of December, with assessment in January
Preliminary trajectory.
Semester 2
[30 ECTS credits]
February – end of May, with assessment in June
Package of theoretical courses, focussing on management of tourism on the
one hand (15 ECTS) and space and society related to tourism on the other hand (15 ECTS).
Semester 3
[30 ECTS credits]
End of September – end of December, with assessment in January
Applied integrated research project. This semester is focussing on applications, with a group seminar about integrated cases from the tourism practice (15 ECTS) and the elaboration of an individual master proof (15 ECTS).
The project is permanently evaluated and winded up with a final presentation in the week before Christmas Holidays; de master proof is presented in February.

The total programme is offered in the Dutch language but the semester-3-programme is also available in English.

About the English programme

The English programme, covering 1 semester, is scheduled during the first semester of an academic year
(September-December with assessment in January). It consists of two parts:


PART 1: Seminar about integrated cases in the tourism practice [15 ECTS]

PART 2: Master Proof [15 ECTS]

About admission rules

Foreign students who want to follow the English programme of 1 semester have to make sure that theirsunset.jpg educational institution has a bilateral collaboration agreement with K.U.Leuven, Faculty of Science, for the Master in Tourism. No other students are accepted than those having already some academic background in tourism.

Students who want to follow the entire programme are required to be Dutch speaking and have to look at the website (topic: toelatingsvoorwaarden) for further information.
